In the case of international travel, there are various vaccinations recommended for travelers depending on to which country they are going to travel.

The following are the recommended vaccination for people who are planning their trip to Japan.

• Vaccination of Influenza is recommended for people who are traveling to the country anytime between November and April, as this is the flu season.
• Individuals who may potentially travel to rural areas for more than a month need to take vaccination for Japanese encephalitis if the travel is between June and September. You may also take the vaccine if you are planning for extensive activities outdoors in rural areas even in the case of short trips.
• If the trip is planned for Ryuku Islands, you need to take the vaccination for Japanese encephalitis if you are traveling between April to October
• Two doses of MMR vaccine (Measles, mumps, rubella) is recommended for travelers who are born after the year 1956, if they have not taken the vaccine so far. Children should have completed the second dose of vaccine before travel to Japan
• Tetanus-diphtheria vaccination is recommended for people who have not taken the injection in the last 10 years
• Travelers are also advised to take adequate measures for insect protection as they are at high risk for Japanese encephalitis
