Circumcision is a commonly performed surgery in infants and it is usually performed within 24 hours of the infants' birth. However, in adult males circumcision is an elective procedure and is done by choice. There are several reasons for a person to choose circumcision and among them some of the reasons could be cosmetic and some of the reasons could be medical. |
Whether circumcision is done on adult males or infants the question arises that is it a medically needed procedure? However, the answer for this question is that circumcision is not medically necessary and no doctor forces that circumcision should be done medically, especially in infants. It is always a surgery of choice among several people. Even in case of penile infections that can be painful there are alternatives to cure the infection besides having a circumcision.
Several researches indicate that circumcision could be helpful in preventing certain kinds of cancers related to sexual organs in men. Many cancers related to the male genitals are results of infections or sexually transmitted diseases. The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is the main reason for many types of genital cancers in men and women, including anal cancer. Due to this, the research indicates that by removing the prepuce or the foreskin, the chances of contracting infection or the human papillomavirus is reduced to a great extent.
In men most of the infection breeds under the prepuce and many penile infections could be caused under the prepuce. It is a difficult area to keep clean and one has to keep the area under the prepuce clean and dry. Otherwise several infections might start due to the lack of hygiene in that area.
