However, to be sexually active in old age, one needs to be in good health and this is only possible if the person takes care of himself in his younger days. An older person has to be ready for certain psychological, physical and social changes, which can affect his or her sexual health. For instance, after menopause, due to hormonal changes occurring in the body, a woman may suffer from vaginal dryness leading to pain when having sexual intercourse. However, this can be easily overcome if the woman is honest about her sex life and sexual health with her doctor.
Health, ultimately, is the most important fact for older adults when it comes to being sexually active. Good health not only increases the ability to enjoy sex but it increases the enjoyment for everyday leisure activities and overall quality of life. Yes, certain condition make sexual intercourse difficult and older adults should not be embarrassed to talk about them to their doctors. The doctor will be able to find a solution so that they can return to normal sexual life. Remember, if you are unable to perform sexually, it could be due to another underlying health problem and by being honest with your doctor, you will be helping yourself.
