Studies Of Language Development In 2 To 5 Year Olds

Language development is a gradual process in children and it starts as early as six months in children. Not all children follow the standard time line in language development and each child is different in their development cycle. Some children talk by the age of two and some talk only at 3 or 4 years of age.

This does not mean that children who talk late have language development problems or children who talk too early or prodigies.

Each child has its won way of understanding and forming words and talk only when they are comfortable with their knowledge. This is very difficult even for psychiatrists to understand about children and why there is such a large variation in when children begin to talk.

You know your child is preparing to talk when they start babbling a lot and they are actually trying to form words. You can help your child develop faster at this time by talking to them a lot. Do not forget that your child understands you but cannot respond. When you are talking to them they are building the vocabulary using their cognitive skills. This is a very important stage in language development. Also at this stage it may be too early to introduce a new language but if they are exposed to two different languages at the same time, they may start talking a bit later.

Between two and five years, children develop their vocabulary skills very rapidly and to a great extent. From learning to speaking words, they begin to hold conversations and also hold the conversation for a few minutes.
