Impact Of The Internet On Child Development

The Internet is an amazing tool for the modern world in all aspects of life be it individual, business, commercial, research or medicine. The internet is also helping children achieve greater tasks academically and the exposure of information is much more for children through the internet.

It has brought several advantages for children today. However, at the same time the disadvantages of internet on a child’s development have come under the magnifying glass for the first time.

There are also several negative aspects that are being pointed out about the information highway. Psychologists and education specialists today believe that the internet may have lasting effects on a child’s physical, cognitive and social development skills. If it is already having an impact on adults, then on children the effects are magnified.

In a common study it was found that in an average household children use more internet than their parents and spend longer hours on the computer and the internet. Internet is used in several ways by children and teenagers like listening to music playing games, for school projects, looking for information and chat. Children, who use the internet more, rate very poorly on physical development and they are often obese. They do not go out and play games that involve physical activity. It also has a bearing on their social skills because children who do not go out to play do not make friends or interact. This makes them have limited social skills as they grow up. Also kids have less emotional and physical exposure and as a result it has a bearing on their cognitive development.
