Diet For Migraine Prevention

A migraine pain is best described as a sharp throbbing pain in one area of the head that occurs in episodes or attacks. A migraine attack may cause nausea and vomiting and render the victim acutely sensitive to light.

 

In some cases, an attack may be preceded by a warning symptom or symptoms called an aura. This could be in the form of flashing lights, zigzag lines, or even temporary loss of vision.

Women are thrice more susceptible than men to a migraine condition. It was commonly believed that migraines were the result of constriction and dilation in the blood vessels in the head. The current thinking is that they are caused by genetic abnormalities that control some cell populations in the brain.

Migraines are triggered by a number of different causes one of which may be food, though normally no dietary restriction is imposed on a person prone to migraines. Some foods suspected of causing migraines are:

Steps should be taken to identify if any of these or other foods act as triggers. Diet is no cure for migraine; rather it is a preventive measure.
