Foot Pain Symptoms And Conditions

The foot is a complex and important part of the body. It has 26 bones and 33 joints and 126 muscles, ligaments and nerves. The average person spends 4 hours on their feet and takes between 3,000 to 10,000 steps daily. The feet endure a lot and need to be looked after.

 

There are different types of foot pain, each with different symptoms. We shall see the conditions, symptoms and treatment for them.

  1. Corns and calluses have hard, dead yellow skin and the corn is painful. It takes place around the toes or areas exposed to friction. The recommended footwear is wide, box-toe shoes soft cushions under the ball of the foot or gel insoles for calluses.
  2. Bunions. Here the toes point inward. The surrounding is red and swollen. It occurs on the big or little toe. Sandals or wide box – toe shoes are helpful.
  3. Ingrown toe nails – this happens when a nail grows into the skin causing pain and swelling. It affects the toenails. Wearing sandals and open-toed shoes is the answer.
  4. Hammertoe. Toes form a hammer. Initially there is no pain. Pain increases as the tendon becomes tighter and the toe stiffens. It can develop on any of the middle 3 toes. Wide box-toe shoes or toe pads should be used.
  5. Morton’s Neuroma. Cramping occurs between the second and third toe or third and fourth toes. It can be detected by pressing hard on the toes. It gets worse on prolonged standing.
