The best way to determine whether you have a healthy weight is to compute your body mass index and compare it to your body frame size. Being overweight is not good for the heart and there are several unhealthy side effects and could lead to heart disease, high blood pressure, varicose veins, diabetes mellitus and sleep apnea. |
It is very easy to find out your body mass index (BMI) by using simple parameters. The BMI uses a simple formula to compute the index and makes it easy for you to follow a simple strategy. Weigh yourself and multiply that weight with 703 to get the figure in kilograms. Divide the same with your height measured in inches and take this number and multiply it by your height in inches.
Here it is: weight in pounds/ height in inches x height in inches.
Compare the resultant number that you get to the related number in the BMI chart to check if you are overweight. However, a body mass index chart alone cannot tell you if you need to lose weight as different people fall under different categories. For example, body builders, sportsmen, older people, kids and some people with special conditions need different parameters.
The body frame of a person also matters when it comes to deciding if a person is overweight or not. To measure the body frame, the size of the circumference of the wrist is taken mainly to determine the bone structure of the person. The size of the wrist when compared with the height of the person will give the body frame measurement and one can find out whether it is small, medium or big.
