Influences On LDL Levels In The Body

Various tests, examinations and researches were done on obese and lean people before and after gastric bypass surgery to find the causes and basic reasons that influence the levels of LDL, high cholesterol level and CHD (coronary heart disease). It was found that LDL cholesterol was not affected by the surgery but HDL was found to be on the higher side.

 

So to summarize, these mechanisms could not determine the reasons for the changes in the level of LDL but could certainly reduce the changes of coronary heart disease.

Cholesterol, which is waxy substance, is found in foods and runs through the bloodstream. The main factors that influence LDL are diet, age, genetics and one’s lifestyle other than their diseases. Diet, being the first and foremost factor, is associated by way of saturated fats by taking foods with hydrogenated vegetable oils like palm and coconut oils. Eggs, red meat too run in this race of influencing LDL and raise the cholesterol level. Age factor along with the obesity of a person where the fat is more concentrated in the abdominal region too play an important role here. People who are diabetic often end up with increased LDL due to medications and at times their tendency towards high cholesterol is found to be due to genetic problem.

Today’s lifestyle plays a very prominent but a negative role in influencing LDL levels in one’s body. The stress level being high along with cigarette smoking leads to rise in LDL levels. A habituated alcoholic always faces the risk of raised LDL and coronary heart disease. Hence, one needs to take care of a lot of things to maintain the LDL levels in their body.
