How Do I Lower My Ldl ?

LDL cholesterol is one of the main risk factors behind coronary heart diseases and it is commonly referred to as bad cholesterol. But this LDL level can be lowered and kept under control. For a normal person, LDL cholesterol level should be around 160mg/dl.

However, this level may have to be reduced further as per your doctor's instructions. To lower LDL cholesterol, you may also have to opt for therapeutic lifestyle changes.

Although LDL level reduced by 20 percent is advisable, loosing weight by even 5 to 10 percent will prove to be highly beneficial. Not to mention, low saturated foods and highly soluble fiber are the right types of foods to help lower the level of LDL. Exercises like running, cycling, jogging and swimming are also helpful in lowering LDL by 5 to 10 percent. Not to forget yoga, which should be an important part of your weight management program.

Cigarette smoking has time and again proved to have large impact on one’s health. It increases the level of high cholesterol that forms oxidized LDL and contributes to atherosclerosis. LDL cholesterol level is sure to decrease by at least 5 percent once cigarettes are stopped.

Actually drinking more than three alcoholic drinks a day would result in increased chances of heart diseases. One drink a day or two drinks a day for women and men has the capacity to raise HDL levels, thereby lowering LDL too by about 4 to 8 percent.

Hence, lowering LDL levels may not be all that difficult if all the above mentioned things are remembered and implemented in your day to day life.
