Both Orlistat and Reductil are advisable only under prescription of a doctor; though they are available over the internet. |
Both are FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved supplements and help in reducing obesity of adults. They reduce the amount of fat being absorbed by the body thereby helping in weight loss.
Reductil versus Orlistat:
While the active ingredient of Orlistat is lipostatin, it is sibutramine hydrochloride in the case of Reductil. Orlistat works as a lipase inhibitor while Reductil works as a satiety enhancer.
Orlistat reduces the absorption of fat by blocking the lipase enzymes in the intestines which are responsible for digesting the fat. The excess fat comes out of the body while passing stool and thus reduce weight. Reductil increases the level of serotonin by blocking the nerve cells which release and reabsorb this component. This reduces the feeling of hunger and hence the individual eats less and loses weight.
Both the pills have to be used in conjunction with a diet comprising of reduced calorie and low fat content. They work extensively in conjunction with regular exercise. Both the pills have undergone extensive study and the clinical trials have proven their safety and effectiveness.
Individuals who consume Orlistat need to follow the 12 month Medical Action Plan also called MAP which gives tips to reduce high calorie diet. Reductil patients have to follow the 12 month programme called Change for Life which encourages healthy eating and increase in physical activity and gives tips on lifestyle changes to gain best results.
The side effects of Orlistat include loose stools and interference in the absorption of vitamins and hence it is advisable to take multi vitamin supplements along with Orlistat. Reductil side effects include constipation, dry mouth, sleeplessness and sometimes a slight increase in blood pressure.
