Muscle building supplements are those whose primary purpose is not to provide calories but rather to augment a part of the muscle building process. There are very few proven effective muscle building supplements.Creatine and glutamine are the only two most effective and hence, the best muscle building supplements. |
Protein: It is the essential building blocks for muscle. Having sufficient protein intake allows for efficient growth and repair of muscle tissue. Bodybuilders often take a powdered form of protein. Whey protein and soy protein are some of the protein supplements.
Prohormones: Prohormones are precursors to hormones and were most typically sold to bodybuilders as a precursor to the natural hormone testosterone. Although initially available over the counter, in 2004 their purchase was made illegal without a prescription in the US.
Creatine: Research has shown it to be both safe and effective to increase muscle mass. When used effectively, it can help increase the speed with which ATP is regenerated. This allows the muscles to train harder and therefore encourage greater muscle growth. Creatine supplementation also hydrates the muscle cells (draws water in). This creates a bigger and fuller appearance to the muscle.
Glutamine: It can help maintain muscle mass, contribute to new muscle growth and works to increase the ability of the muscles to recover repair and rebuild themselves after being subjected to a rigorous workout schedule. It plays a vital role in protein synthesis (the building of new muscle).
Testosterone boosters: There are several naturally occurring plants and vitamins as well as synthetic chemicals that supplement companies claim may produce an increase in testosterone levels. However, the validity of many of these products is questionable due to a lack of valid scientific research showing their effectiveness at this time. Some commonly taken supplements of this type are ZMA and Tribulus terrestris.
However, muscle building supplements cannot help the body build muscle unless the body gets the necessary raw materials from a well-balanced diet.
