The following diabetes-related services are covered by Medicare:

• New beneficiaries enrolling after January 1, 2005 can get cover on one-time thorough health review, education and counseling about preventive services like screenings and shots.
• Medicare will cover the cost of tests to check for diabetes and these tests are only available to people with high blood pressure, increased cholesterol, obesity or history of high blood sugar levels. Even if you have a family history of diabetes or history of gestational diabetes, you can avail these tests. Based on the results, you will be eligible for 1 or 2 diabetes screening tests each year.
• Medicare will cover glaucoma tests once in 12 months for people who are at high risk for glaucoma and this includes people with diabetes.
• People who get Medicare will also be eligible for glucose monitors, test strips and lancets.
• You will also be eligible for Diabetes Self-Management Training if requested by your doctor.
