What Are Resuscitation Code Status ?

Actually resuscitation is a process that is performed as an emergency first aid and following codes is simply not possible. Because the question comes to whether the person should live or not. It is not right to explain the code even if it is one single sentence to a person who is suffering and dying at the same time.

It has been never used and doubts are if they will be used ever.

Code status does exist in hospitals but is seldom used. If a person has been suffering from some type of terminal disease, then they have the full right to know the code status. However, it is not possible on emergency procedures and is quite unfair to expect too. Patients in a hospital are required to know the code status and be educated about it. It is the duty of the doctors and nurses to discuss it with them and respect their wishes.

However, when a person who needs resuscitation, the assumption is made that the person obviously wishes to live and is in no position to hear the code status. If there are complications due to the resuscitation procedure later, at that time bringing it up is not ethical because when the person was dying saving his or her life was more important than considering other types of damage. The term resuscitation means last minute efforts and it is not a planned process. It is performed unexpectedly on incidents that are unexpected.

Code status is just a formality than a fact.
