Vitamin D Overdose

Vitamins are safe if consumed only in proportionate volumes. An overdose of vitamins has detrimental effects on the human body. The body does not much vitamin D on a daily basis and the consumption of it is rather low. The body produces vitamin D naturally due to the exposure to sun.

 

Sun rays are the main source of vitamin D for the body and it is required to enhance the absorption of calcium and other minerals. Some people may need to take vitamin D supplements if they have a bone elated disease or calcium deficiency. Also, there are many food sources that are rich in vitamin D and supply the body with it. The only way a person can get an overdose of vitamin D is by taking too many supplements at one time. The body does not know how much vitamin D to consume when it is not from a natural source.

When the vitamin D in the body reaches toxic levels due to an overdose a condition called hypervitaminosis D occurs. Also typically vitamin D overdose occurs over a period of time and rarely through a single dose. This happens because the body is unable to excrete the excess vitamin in the body and starts building reaching toxic levels. The health risks of vitamin D overdose may lead to excess calcium in the body and other minerals like phosphates. When these minerals are excessive in the body they make it to malfunction in many ways. They can also cause bone pain and fatigue.
