The definition of heat stroke is that it is a kind of hyperthermia that causes the body temperature to rise to a level where the body’s mechanism of cooling down shuts down. Hyperthermia is one step ahead of sunstroke or heat stroke and can cause death by making the body absorb more heat than it can actually dissipate. |
If a person is exposed to sunlight for a long period of time, they are highly susceptible to get a heat stroke. The human body has its own heat regulating system and when it gets overwhelmed because of excess heat from the outside, the mechanism fails. The body temperature then begins to rise and causes dehydration and sometimes even death.
Unlike other forms of hyperthermia, the body can suffer heat stroke at any time and it can happen suddenly. If a person is suffering from heat stroke, then one should call 911 immediately and take some immediate measures to cool down the body of the person in question.
The most common symptoms of heat stroke are nausea, dizziness, confused state, unconsciousness, dehydration, dry skin, red skin, sweating or complete absence of it and extremely hot body.
The immediate remedies that a person can take to control heat stroke are to take the person to a shaded place and then douse them with cool water. Putting them under a shower is also a good idea. You can put ice on their lips, chest and groin to cool the body down immediately. However, do not give the person anything to drink until the body temperature comes down and some of the symptoms of heat stroke disappear.
