Diarrhea is often described as a condition where a person passes loose or watery stools frequently. There are several diseases that can cause diarrhea. Some times diarrhea is caused by bacterial infections. Several types of bacteria like Campylobacter, Salmonella, Shigella, and Escherichia coli (E. coli) are likely to cause diarrhea. |
Most of these bacteria are found in human feces and they can get back into the digestive system through unsafe drinking water and stale food.
There are also many viruses that can cause diarrhea like rotavirus, Norwalk virus, cytomegalovirus, herpes simplex virus, and viral hepatitis. Viral infections can be transmitted from person to person and they may cause diseases like hepatitis. Diarrhea is a side effect of many of the diseases caused due to viruses. Jaundice, gastroenteritis, stomach ulcers are all virus created and can cause diarrhea as a side effect.
There are several other conditions like allergies and food intolerances that can cause diarrhea. A person who has a chronic condition of acidity should eat their meals regularly. If they skip meals and suffer acidity, sometimes it can result in diarrhea. Irritable bowel syndrome directly leads to diarrhea if the person suffering from it eats spicy food. Spicy food alters the chemicals in the stomach and starts a chemical reaction. Even though the diarrhea may not last very long it can be painful. IBS is a bowel disorder and people should be careful with what they eat or drink with this condition. For people with food allergies diarrhea is just one wrong step away.
