Diarrhea is an extremely contagious condition whether it caused due to virus, bacteria or an illness. When a person is having diarrhea he or she frequents the bathroom several times in a day. When they do not wash their hands properly they can easily transmit the germs or virus to others. |
Personal hygiene is extremely important for a person who has diarrhea. Usually in the hospital environment people who suffer from diarrhea are kept in separate ward so that the infection does not spread. Diarrhea is mostly caused due to bacteria and viruses that are found in water and other liquids. These bacteria and virus can be very contagious in nature and they spread quickly. E coli is a common kind of bacteria that gets transferred from feces to water and therefore can cause diarrhea when consumed.
Other types of diarrhea that are not caused due to virus or bacteria are also contagious. Diarrhea can be caused as a reaction to certain food like for example people who have the irritable bowel syndrome or the IBS cannot tolerate spicy food. When such people have spicy food they suffer from diarrhea. Even this type of diarrhea can be contagious because of the bacteria being excreted.
Diarrhea is basically a condition that causes bowel disorders and there are several reasons for it. However, a person should take precautions like washing their hand every time after using the bathroom or also when the eat something. Other people should not use the same things used by the patient including hand towels and glasses or plates.
