Seventy five percent of the human body is made of water and the body needs water for several of its functions. The brain which plays a huge role in the management of the body needs water on a constant basis to function properly. When the body is not getting sufficient or no water it is called dehydration. |
Dehydration is caused by several types of illnesses and viral and bacterial infections. If dehydration is not treated in time it can lead to several complications which can be fatal or devastating in nature.
Kidney failure can be caused due to dehydration when it is not treated promptly. As the water levels in the body drops the blood pressure also falls low and it can stop blood supply to some of the body’s vital organs like kidneys. If a human kidney stops functioning, then it can fail forever.
Coma is another condition caused by dehydration and it may also lead to permanent brain damage. Lack of blood and oxygen supply to the brain makes a person confused and stressed out. Also, many of the brain’s functions may suddenly cease causing irreversible brain damage.
Shock is also a less serious state than coma. A person who is in shock may stop responding and stays dazed for some time. Dehydration causes the brain to stop functioning and the person loses his ability to interpret and remains in a shocked state.
Other conditions caused by dehydration are heating up the body and causing uncontrollable fever. When the body temperature rises abnormally a person may react and get seizure, convulsions and fits.
