There are two different types of medicines when it comes to sleep medications. One is based on benzodiziazepaine and the other is non-benzodiazepine-based medicines. For some people sleep problems may be temporary because of some underlying ailment or external injuries. In others it is a regular problem.
Therefore, based on the type of sleep disorder a person is suffering from, doctors prescribe the medication.
The benzodiazepine-based sleeping pills are widely used for curing temporary kind of problems so that the side effects are minimal and the person also can get over their sleep problems. However, when someone gets used to this drug, the medication is gradually reduced in order to stop it. Because if the person suddenly stops taking it, he may lose his sleep again and develop irregular sleep patterns. However, it depends on how long the person has been using medications based on this drug.
The other kind of medication, which is the non-benzodiazepine-based, is more complex in structure and usually people do not develop an addiction to non-benzodiazepine-based drugs with constant usage. A non benzodiazepine-based tablet works in a completely different manner. It does not create a hangover like effect when the person wakes up in the morning. However, it cannot be said if the person would develop a dependency on the drug or not.
Any kind of prescription drug acts directly on the brain and that is actually bad. Because in many people who have problems with sleep the problem does not lie in the brain and it may be something completely different causing sleep disorders.
