Nicotine is usually consumed in very small quantity since a drop of pure nicotine is enough to kill a person. Nicotine causes the upper respiratory organs to expand and it also stimulates the muscles that help in respiratory functioning. A person who uses excessive nicotine, smokes more than 20 cigarettes a day or has excessive tea can suffer from sleep problems.
People who smoke too much have been found to suffer from severe problems sleeping in the night. That is one more reason that causes people, who smoke, to turn into alcoholics. Nicotine has several other harmful effects than sleep problems.
Sleep problems are caused because nicotine stimulates the brain and makes it work overtime. In addition, nicotine disables the person from concentrating on specific tasks for a long period of time and this includes sleep. Sleep obstructions caused due to craving and over functionality of the brain can harm the person in the long run. Also, some people who smoke regularly develop problems like sleep apnea, which causes sleep obstructions. Nicotine induced sleep problems can only be cured when the person stops the consumption of nicotine completely.
