How Long A Sunburn Can Last ?

Depending on the skin color and the severity of the burn, sunburn can last from seventy two hours to a couple of days, or a maximum of two weeks. Usually mild sunburns last for three to five days. However, moderate and severe sunburn lasts much longer.

The effects of radiation are much more long lasting than the burns. Sunburns increase the risk of wrinkles, premature aging and even skin cancer. Usually the symptoms are not immediately visible and take a little time to manifest.

Sunburn usually starts as a red inflammation or a rash on the skin, which may be warm to touch. Within the next seventy two hours, all the symptoms are seen. There might be a great deal of pain and itchiness in the affected area. In some cases, the skin might start to peel off in the following days. The person might experience nausea, fever, chills and tenderness of the skin. Headaches or even heat stroke due to dehydration is also not uncommon.

In cases of severe sunburn, one must seek medical help immediately. In certain severe cases of sunburns, blistering and second degree burns have been reported. If one has blisters on the skin, healing can take from one week to three weeks time.

Long hours of unprotected sun exposure may result in deadly diseases like the malignant melanoma. The skin damage which usually happens as a kid owing to long exposures in the sun may result in melanoma in adulthood. More than half a lifetime’s sun exposure happens during childhood and teenage years. Cataract in the eyes is another long term effect of over exposure to sun's radiation.
