What Illnesses Are Linked To Unexplainable Skin Rashes ?

A skin rash is a visible change in the skin’s color, appearance or texture. Usually, a rash is limited to one part of the body. But, sometimes it can spread and affect a particular organ or a large part of a body.

Rash may cause the skin to change color, become warm, bumpy, dry and/or cracked. It can be like itchy blisters, which are swollen and painful. The skin could become dry and scaly, or oozy with pus flowing out of the white or red colored spots. These conditions are common in most skin rash. However, the most common ones are usually itchy bumps on the skin.

Since the causes of skin rash vary widely, the treatments can vary accordingly. Sometimes, the presence of a rash could be a sign of some other underlying conditions that has yet to be diagnosed. Hence, it is important to treat any skin rashes carefully.

Measles is an example of such a disease. A rash usually occurs on the upper part of the body like the head and then spreads downwards to the rest of the body. It is usually associated with symptoms like fever. Potentially life-threatening illnesses and diseases can have skin rash as a symptom. This is true for diseases like Pemphigus vulgaris (PV), Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS), toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN), toxic shock syndrome (TSS) and staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome (SSS). Since these are all very serious diseases, any skin rash should be properly treated within a week.

Rash requires proper diagnosis and treatment. One must be watchful when skin rash is associated with fever, blisters, pain, irritability and severe itching.
