The contagious nature of impetigo makes it a very communicable disease. Impetigo is usually common among small children. Impetigo is a kind of skin infection caused by bacteria. One should be aware of the nature and causal factors of this infection. This is particularly important to protect our children from the harms of impetigo.

Impetigo can be spread through infected clothes, utensils and even by touching the sores. Children often touch the sores as it is difficult to resist the urge of the itch caused by the infection. Beside these common causes, there are some sources of the bacterial infection in our homes that we are not aware of.

Majority of people are unaware of the fact that impetigo is also carried by animals. Normally this kind of bacterial infection is not found in animals, but they can be potential carriers of the bacteria.

Impetigo is mainly caused by two types of bacteria, namely staphylococcus and streptococcus. Animal carry the strep virus which is one of the lesser known sources for the cause of the disease. Even houseflies can sit on open sores of infected person and successfully spread it to other healthy individuals.

For instance, pet dog can be carriers of this bacterial infection, which can spread to the little children in our homes. This is how impetigo can spread in many unknown ways. Animals generally do not suffer from this infection but are good carriers to spread the infection. So, it is important to remember that animals can spread the infection as effectively as humans.
