Impetigo is mainly caused by two types of bacteria, namely staphylococcus and streptococcus. Animal carry the strep virus which is one of the lesser known sources for the cause of the disease. Even houseflies can sit on open sores of infected person and successfully spread it to other healthy individuals.
For instance, pet dog can be carriers of this bacterial infection, which can spread to the little children in our homes. This is how impetigo can spread in many unknown ways. Animals generally do not suffer from this infection but are good carriers to spread the infection. So, it is important to remember that animals can spread the infection as effectively as humans.
