A cat needs a high quality of care and grooming. While dogs are treated as most loyal pets, cats are taken as the most royal pets. But like dogs, even cats are susceptible to dandruff. Dandruff is a common complaint among many cat owners. In spite of adopting all the proper measures for excellent grooming, many cat owners are vexed by this problem.

The factors causing dandruff are varied. Different situations and conditions are known to cause dandruff in the fur of cats.

Cats, which are obese or fat, are more prone to dandruff problem. Most cats are affected by dandruff on their tails. The reason being the tail is usually ignored during self-grooming sessions. This is particularly the case in fat cats as their tails are hard to reach. This is a little strange as cats are believed to be excellent self groomers. But obese cats have a hard time reaching all the parts in their bodies due to less flexibility from excess body fat.

A diet which is lacking in fatty acids can cause dandruff too. Fatty acids help to keep the skin hydrated, and prevent dry skin which causes dandruff. So, cats, which have a diet deficient in fatty acids, will develop flaky and dry skin, and this can easily trigger a dandruff problem.

Lack of humidity in the atmosphere also causes dandruff. If your cat is exposed to dry conditions, it might develop dandruff over a period of time. Some parasites, which live on the skin often known as walking dandruff or Cheyletiella, can also contribute to dry and flaky skin. So, it is important to keep the pet in proper ventilated, airy places and feed them a diet rich in fatty acids to combat the pesky problem of dandruff.
