Shaving head is one of the most common and effective method of getting rid of dandruff. This method seems very effective when all the other treatments fail to control dandruff. The awareness about dandruff helps to decide whether shaving one’s head is necessary.
Dandruff is caused due a growth and development of a fungus on the scalp. The particular fungus causing dandruff is called pityrosporum ovale. It is believed that normally this fungus can be controlled from growing on the scalp by using special anti-fungal shampoos like Nizoral. The active ingredient in the shampoo is very effective in killing the fungus. However, it is important to follow the directions while using these shampoos, or else the fungus might become resistant to the chemical, and hence, result in severe dandruff.
One is left with no other option but to shave one’s head when one fails to control the fungus growth on the scalp. Shaving one’s head is an extreme step to get rid to dandruff. The reason being the fungus cannot tolerate dry and bright conditions which is caused by shaving the head. Though this is a very effective solution to the menace of dandruff, one must resort to this practice only when all other measures and medications fail to control the situation.
