Non Viral Cause For Cold Sores

Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus. The virus is very contagious in nature, and generally attacks a human body with a weak immune system. Herpes simplex virus are of two types, herpes simplex type 1, which causes cold sores on the lips, and herpes simplex type 2, which causes sores around genital area known as genital herpes.

There are also a number of other factors which can cause cold sores. These are extreme exposure to sunlight and strong winds. These are the infections in which virus is not the cause for cold sores. When a person is exposed to direct sunlight, the ultra violet rays in the sunlight change the hormonal level causing cold sores.

Normally, the herpes simplex virus attacks when the immune system is weak. It is most common when an individual’s immune system is busy fighting the flu or cold virus. As the immune system is weak when it is already fighting some kind of virus, it becomes easy for the herpes virus to attack the body.

Changes in hormonal levels in the pregnant body also cause cold sores. The virus is contagious and can be transmitted through intimate body contacts like kissing. Another way of spreading the virus is when one touches a cold sore and then touches any part of the body which has a cut or open wound. This provides an excellent pathway for the virus to enter into the body.

So, it is important for everyone to be aware of how the virus spreads, and the precautions one can take to prevent the virus from entering the body. It is important to have a strong healthy immune system and a stable blood sugar level and protect the body from direct exposure to sun and wind.
