Bipolar Checklist for Kids:
The symptoms to look out for in children with such disorders are very mild. For example, if the child goes through rapidly changing moods, or has more than normal separation anxiety and finds difficulty in sleeping, then there might be a underlying problem. Children, who suffer from this disorder, also have the problem of impaired judgment.
Children suffering from bipolar disorder exhibit low levels of energy or complete lack of energy sometimes. They are usually depressed and behave impulsively. Every normal child has a certain amount of appetite however children with this disorder display either lack of appetite or increased appetite. They are very pessimistic in their approach and find it difficult to concentrate on tasks. Other accompanying symptoms like bed wetting and bad dreams or night terrors can be noticed. If a child craves chocolates too much or constantly eats sweets then it could be due to depression which is an accompanying problem of bipolar disorder. Certain chemical imbalances in the brain cause a person to eat sweets and chocolates. Also the same goes for craving carbohydrates. If all the above symptoms are noticed along with these behavior patterns then the child should be evaluated for possible bipolar disorder.
