A lot of doctors who have been studying bipolar disorders have found some interesting revelations through brain scans. They find that there is an increase or abnormal amount of certain chemicals in the brain when the moods of people suffering from bipolar disorders fluctuate. |
Many problems like depression, mania, and normal mood show different levels of chemical activity in the brain. The modern MRI technology views the chemical properties of the brain and tissue and sees variations in bipolar patients. Scientists also believe that bipolar disorder does not affect certain parts of the brain and it only has a result in one particular area of the brain.
The scientists have found that the brain scans can actually help them arrive at the right medication levels to be given to patients with bipolar disorders and through them they can even determine the level of bipolar disorder in a patient.
There are various degrees of the disorder and different patients exhibit different symptoms. Based on the severity of the problem, a conclusive stage can be reached in terms of treatment for the patients. For psychiatric problems, the level of the disorder is very difficult to find out just based on the symptoms. The usual medication given is calculated based on the patient’s symptoms and the physical attributes. However, using brain scans the right amount of dosage and medication can be given to the patients suffering from bi polar disorders so that the chemical imbalance in their brain can be brought under control.
