There are social causes for anorexia however unreasonable it sounds. The immediate society that we all live in plays a significant role in an anorexic patient’s life and as a result social causes of anorexia should not be overlooked. |
Look at the developed countries' culture for example! People in these countries tend to think that being thin is being healthy and also it is the perfect body to have. The extremities of being thin can go to the extreme of being size zero in the departmental store to weighing as much as a feather or a mosquito!
If a person who is moderately fat has siblings who are very thin and naturally blessed with thinner bodies, then that might be a problem. If the people whom you mingle with are thin, then that might also be one of the causes that could lead you to anorexia. The crux of the problem is that all human beings compare a lot and want to be accepted in the society. Also the society does not respect fat people and they are constantly joked about. Everything from what size of clothes they wear to how much food they eat is discussed and joked about. Attracting negative attention is something that everyone dreads.
Sometimes a person’s own family may not approve the way he or she looks and because of the disapproval the person who is being rejected constantly may refrain from eating. This will lead to anorexia eventually. Unfortunate most people are led to believe that the idea of being perfect is by being extremely thin.
