Cognitive Behavorial Therapy For Eating Disorders

What is cognitive behavioral therapy? It is an active counseling given to people who need it. Cognitive behavioral therapy for eating disorders is a kind of therapy given to people suffering from eating disorders and anorexic patients.

In most cases people suffering form these disorders do not even know that they are going through a problem. They need external help like counseling to help them.

Cognitive therapy for these people is given on a weekly basis where the patient is expected to meet the therapist at least once a week. The therapy could last for one hour and sometimes the same sessions are also conducted as group sessions.

The therapy usually involves explaining to the patient about their problem, its symptoms and how it will take over their health. The patient during the therapy is expected to make a note of their eating habits on a daily basis and also note down if they had any problems while eating. They are usually given a time table for their meals which they are expected to follow and the therapist would also go through the time table.

In case a certain person is having problems with the ability to eat then they are taught how to overcome the problems. An anorexic patient however has no restraints in the kind of food they eat and they are free to over eat anything they want provided they should want it. Sometimes the problem of anorexia is could with depression for some people and patients who have both are taught how to deal with their depression and as well as their eating habits.
