Anorexia Nervosa and its effects on teenage girls is more because the girls in their teens undergo a lot of peer pressure to look thin and always are in the mind set to covet a super model image in their schools.
It can be a serious condition and it cal also cause severe health problems if left untreated and sometimes could lead to death. Deaths in anorexia can be caused due to suicide or starvation and it is one of the most common psychiatric illnesses for which the death rate is high. Anorexia is found in females more than men because women have an underlying pressure to be thin and to also find acceptance into the society.
The problem with teenage girls is that they convince themselves that they are fat even if they are border line over weight. Also, a teenage girl, who is anorexic, does not realize that she is sick and continues starving to the extent that she loses her appetite completely. This phase could continue for months or even a year if left unattended. Family members of the anorexic girl should be aware of the symptoms and should find help at the right time to save the teenage girl suffering from anorexia.
