1. Pharaoh Ramses I, who ruled Egyptian Kingdom, died due to ear infection that might have been caused due to bacteria or fungi.
2. Pharaoh Ramses V died of small pox infection. Similar infection is presumed to have caused the death of Marcus Aurelius Antonius, the famous Roman Emperor and his thousands of soldiers. Fortunately, small pox has been eradicated from the surface of the earth mainly due to efforts of Sir Edward Jenner, the famous biologist who developed the concept of vaccination.
3. Alexander the Great, the famous Greek Emperor who conquered every piece of land between Greece and Asia, possibly died due an infection in the lungs that might be pneumonia or TB. In fact, TB or Tuberculosis is still one of the most dreaded diseases in the world killing millions of people every year. It is caused due to infection by a bacterium called Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Other famous personalities who died of TB include John Keats, Henry VIII and George Orwell.
4. Franz Schubert was a famous music composer who had suffered from syphilis. Those were the days when there was no antibiotic available to cure the disease.
5. During the last years of his life, Oscar Wilde, one the most famous writers in the history, had suffered from severe skin infection and a painful ear disease.
6. In the later stages of life, Franklin D. Roosevelt, the 32nd American President, suffered a polio infection resulting in total and permanent paralysis. Polio is a disease that is caused due to infection by a virus known as Polio myelitis.
