Swine flu is diagnosed by sending a respiratory sample for analysis. This sample is collected within the first 5 days of the illness. Currently the only treatment that is being recommended is usage of Oseltamivir or Tamiflu and Relenza. One should complete the dosage prescribed by the doctor, even if one is feeling better. Right now the focus is more on preventing the disease rather than curing it since this is a new strain of virus and even for the prevention of this disease, there is no vaccine that has been developed as yet and one has to take preventive steps on their to keep away this disease.

Some steps that can be taken to prevent this disease are staying from people who have flu like symptoms since swine flu spreads with sneezing, coughing, or by touching something which contains the virus and then touching one’s own nose or mouth. One also needs to take care of personal hygiene which would include things like washing hands regularly as well as regularly disinfecting the house. It is also recommended that those who exhibit flu like symptoms should stay away from work or school.

By taking these precautions, one can prevent getting swine flu, even in the absence of a proper vaccine.
