Until now type 2 diabetes was not linked to cognitive problems in anyway. However, in recent times the condition is being associated with decreased cognitive functions in children and adults. |
It also works the other way round where children who are diagnosed with limited cognitive development or problems are at a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes later in life.
However, all these finding are in a research stage where the results still have to concluded and confirmed. The research is still in its formative stages. The main reason for not having adequate research opportunities is because a person has to be studied over a period of his life and that would take several years. There are several explanations available as to why diabetes is being linked with cognitive problems. The cognitive defects in children at childhood may have a bigger influence on their lifestyle in adulthood and the influence may be a negative one. However these are all possibilities.
How does cognitive problems affect the functions of the body to cause diabetes has still not be established and it is mostly linked indirectly. Also, type 2 diabetes is mostly caused due to bad habits and life style, and also overweight.
Cognitive problems are much more complicated in nature and there are several reasons why they are caused. There is no direct correlation between them and one does not lead to the other in a direct way. Cognitive problems may, however, cause other conditions like blood pressure variations which in turn may have effects on blood glucose levels and therefore, giving rise to diabetes.
