When a person is diagnosed with diabetes several alterations have to be made to food habits and their life style. A diabetic person may face several restrictions on what to eat and when to eat. Though they can choose from a wide variety of foods, most diabetic patients are advised to eat food that has low fat content and has low sugar value. |
Also, they should eat less salt while eating lots of vegetables and fruits. Even when it comes to healthy food like fruit juices, for example, restrictions are placed. Diabetic people should not consume a lot of juice as it can have adverse effects on the blood sugar levels. The best advice that they can follow is to have carbohydrates which digest slowly like whole meal bread, and other high protein foods.
Foods that need to be clearly avoided by people with type 2 diabetes are sweets ice creams, junk food, fast food including KFC and McDonalds, oily food, pickles and sugar. They have to carefully plan their meals and see that the food that they eat gives them energy for at least 2 to 3 hours. Furthermore, people with this condition should aim at eating frequent meals and keeping their energy levels stable.
In general, foods that are excessively sweet or salty may not agree with them on a daily basis. It is okay to indulge once in a while but it should not be a habit to eat such foods everyday. They should also steer clear from habits such as smoking and drinking alcohol.
