Type 1 Diabetes And Bruises

Type 1 diabetes is more commonly found in children and the onset happens because of a viral infection or fever. There are several symptoms of diabetes in children and adults. The most common ones are constant hunger and fatigue. Also, in some children the condition is diagnosed only after a seizure.

Seizures may occur in children only when the blood sugar level falls beyond the normal levels. By then there will be several other symptoms like irritability, palpitations of the heart, sweatiness and dizziness. Parents who notice these symptoms should immediately rush them to the hospital for immediate care. Also, as a pre hospital care they should give the child something sweet to drink and chew like hard candies or sugar. This has to be done as an attempt to restore the falling blood sugar levels.

An early symptom of juvenile diabetes is when wounds take a long time to heal in their body. Whenever children hurt themselves or cut or bruise themselves the wound typically takes a week for healing completely. However, with children who have diabetes even these small injuries can take a long time to heal and in the mean time the wound can get further infected. When wounds do not heal fast, then the parents should suspect the possibility of juvenile diabetes and check with the doctor immediately.

The presence of juvenile diabetes in a child hampers the absorption of Vitamin K, which is crucial for the immune system to heal the wounds. Such children may also need other vitamin supplements as a part of their daily medication.
