Differences In Type 1 And 2 Diabetes Testing

There are millions of people across the world who suffers from diabetes. There are two types of diabetes that is found in people. One is the type 1 diabetes, which is caused in early childhood as a result of a viral fever and malfunctioning of the immune system.

Type 2 diabetes is mainly caused due to the lack of proper health style and diet control and occurs mostly in adulthood.

Diabetes is mainly diagnosed by testing the blood sugar is levels in the body. In individuals where the blood sugar is low it is called hypoglycemia and in people where the blood sugar is high it is called hyper glycemia. Low blood sugar is a common problem associated with type 1 diabetes and is caused because the body is not manufacturing insulin. The lack of insulin causes the body to absorb less or no glucose from the blood.

In people with type 2 diabetes, the pancreas makes insulin but the body becomes resistant to it. The liver functions normally by producing glucose required for the body but because the body is resistant to insulin it does not absorb the glucose to convert it into energy. In such people the glucose level in the blood is high causing hyperglycemia.

In either case it is a metabolism disorder and it causes various other problems like obesity, fatigue and seizures. The difference is type 1 and type 2 diabetes testing is fairly simple. Testing for type 1 diabetes may involve testing the levels of insulin; however for type 2 diabetes only the blood sugar levels are tested.
