Insulin plays a very important role in the body functions of a human being. Every time we eat the body produces insulin using the pancreas and it helps the body to absorb the glucose for gaining energy from the blood cells. Glucose that is in the blood stream needs to be absorbed into the cells and tissues in the body and it is not safe for glucose to be left in the blood.

 

If glucose remains in the blood stream, it has the potential to attach itself to the proteins and also restricts them from doing their job. Protein when it malfunctions can cause several things like kidney damage, brain damage, and blindness. Insulin is also needed by the body for several other functions like controlling the liver from producing excessive fat, keeping cholesterol under check and regularizing the metabolism. It also contributes to the regular growth of the body.

Some people show insulin resistance due to various reasons. Insulin resistance is a condition where the various cells in the body are not affected by insulin any more. In a normal person’s body every cell reacts to insulin in some way or the other. For insulin to take effect in such people the quantity should be high. People with insulin resistance are treated with insulin injections and tablets. The symptoms of insulin may be obesity and sometimes it may happen to women who are pregnant also. Some illnesses and stress can also lead to this syndrome. If people are taking steroids, then it might interfere with the body’s abilities to absorb insulin.
