Hypoglycemia is treated in several ways depending on the person’s health requirements and the type of diabetes they have. The method of treatment mainly depends on the underlying cause. There is no single and a unanimous drug that is used to treat the condition. In some individuals drugs are not used at all for treatment.

 

The main mode of treatment for hypoglycemia is concentrated on the daily diet followed by the person. People are often advised to eat smaller wholesome meals in a frequency of every four hours. Hypoglycemic patients also tend to lose weight faster because their body consumes more glucose than recommended. They should also limit sugar and eat a wide variety of food. The changes in the diet program periodically helps the body adjust to varying levels of glucose.

The common medications used to treat the condition are diazoxide and glucagons. Most of the medicines are made with these components however the dosage may vary. These medicines are taken orally so that the glucose levels are restored in the body. Several times a drop in glucose in the blood is due to overdose of insulin. Diazoxide works by controlling the insulin in the body. Glucagons work by providing additional glucose for the body to increase its levels. In a broad perspective there are only two ways to treat, one is to control insulin which causes the blood glucose levels to drop and the other is to increase the level of glucose to suffice the loss. In which ever case the suitability for the patient is determined first.
