Has Your Toddler With Hypoglycemia Had Seizures ?

Hypoglycemia can sometimes be found among toddlers and infants also. If the condition is not managed in them, then it can lead to seizures. When a child has seizure they may be unconscious for a while and if they had a seizure during sleep it is quite difficult to wake them up.

Hypoglycemia can be a one time incident in a child due to a severe viral fever or sickness.

However, if it is a chronic condition, then you can identify with the help of symptoms the child is showing over a prolonged period of time. A child might complain of hunger a lot and after he or she eats, they may become overly active and slow down to the other extreme gradually. Also, a toddler with hypoglycemia will have a rapid heart rate at all times and they may complain of headaches and shivers. However, in children the condition can be evaluated only after a blood sugar level check.

The diagnosis of hypoglycemia in children is diagnosed in the same way it is done in adults. The blood work is taken to test the sugar levels while fasting and after eating. The symptoms of hypoglycemia tend to occur early in the morning and subside after dinner in night. If a child shows extreme irritability, then you should be concerned about their blood sugar levels if the same is accompanied by the other symptoms mentioned above.

If a child has been diagnosed with the condition, then proper management of meals should be taken care of medicines should be carefully administered in the way prescribed and with extreme regularity to avoid seizures and other complications.
