People with low blood sugar must have planned meals that are rich in dietary fibers, complex carbohydrates and proteins. The main aim to have planned diet is to slow down the rate of absorption of food. The problem with hypoglycemic patients is their body tends to absorb food faster than normal and that is why they seem to be hungry all the time. |
If they do not take planned meals, they are prone to putting on weight which can further worsen the condition. Doctor’s suggest that hypoglycemic patients should have small and frequent meals.
A diet that comprises of legumes, vegetables, cereals, and rice contain complex carbohydrates and vitamins. They tend to break down at a slower and steady pace supplying constant energy. A high fiber diet is also recommended like fruits, vegetables, figs, whole grains and wheat based breads. All kinds of cereals, bran’s, pulses, and vegetables like cauliflower, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, potatoes, and cabbage are good for consumption. Even though sweet potatoes have high levels of sugar, they are considered to be good for them as they have a high level of fiber.
Other vegetables like carrots and beets are also good. Fruits like bananas, apples, straw berries are beneficial. They can also adopt alternate means of consumption like instead of fruit juices you can have the fruit because juices tend to break down faster than the fruit itself.
Foods that hypoglycemic patients should avoid are processed sugar, chocolates, alcohol and fatty food like confectionary items. Cakes and artificially sweetened food should be completely avoided by hypoglycemic patients.
