Hyperglycemia or high blood sugar may be a result or a cause of several serious conditions. It occurs due to the high levels of glucose in the blood. Glucose is an important ingredient used to regulate the functions of the body. However, high levels of it may damage the body at the same time and it is not healthy.

 

Regulating the flow of blood sugar in the blood is the job of the endocrine system and when it is not functioning properly, such problems arises. When you consume food the sugars are stored and due to any underlying disorders the body faces problem in processing these sugars and leading to hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia.

There are several diseases that cause the problem of high blood sugar in people. Diabetes is one of them and people who are overweight with diabetes usually have high blood sugar. People who have heart diseases and who are prone to heart attacks also develop problems related to blood sugar. Though heart diseases are genetically passed on conditions they may cause blood sugar levels to vary eventually. Varying levels of blood sugar often may be a result of poor and unhealthy diet. High blood sugar sometimes is directly caused due to overweight problems in a person.

Other conditions that can be associated with high blood sugar are thyroid, certain types of cancer, gastroenteritis and several kinds of kidney related problems. Kidney and liver diseases are often associated with high blood sugar. In women, high blood sugar is caused mainly due to diabetes and heart diseases. Sometimes even pregnant women can suffer from the condition temporarily.
