Risks Associated With Exercise Induced Asthma

Although asthmatics may have an inherent fear of exercise, it should not be a deterrent to exercising. The benefits from exercise far outweigh the risks involved in. A physician should be consulted on the safest form of exercise. Every asthmatic patient must keep an asthmatic action plan which lists the guidelines in event of an emergency.

 

         Exercise induced asthma (EIA) does not deter the top athletes. The following are some pointers to be followed.

         The advantages with EIA far exceed the risks, provided the patient follows the physician’s guidelines.

         The patient should always carry a pre-exercise inhaler which should be used 15 - 30 minutes before activity. Keep it handy when exercising in case you need it again.
