Asthma Attack And Dizziness

Asthma is the name given to a disease of airways in the lungs. It makes breathing difficult. The airways may either tighten up, or are inflamed and react to allergens adversely. These could be dust, pollens, pet dander etc.

Sometimes, stress causes the disease. Irritants like strong cleaning agents or air pollutions could cause it. Having the flu, colds and sinus infections may trigger it off.

Dizziness is a lightheaded feeling or a feeling when one feels everything round him is moving. It is not a disease but a symptom of some other illness. When dizziness occurs to a person after a prolonged period of sitting, it is temporary, as there is insufficient blood flowing to the brain. Dizziness can also occur after a heavy meal or even after starvation. There is a sharp drop in blood pressure that causes dizziness.

The symptoms that appear in asthma are different for different people and may even vary at different points of time for the same person. Dizziness is not associated with asthma unless accompanied by wheezing or some of the other typical symptoms. With asthma, moving air in and out of the lungs is difficult. If such a feeling is prolonged, one can become hypoxic which brings on a spell of dizziness.

On the other hand, if one is dizzy but with no breathing stress, then it is likely to be for some other reason, like when one breathes fast and cannot get a full breath. It could also be an anxiety attack and light headedness from breathing too much.

These factors lead to many more symptoms typical of an asthmatic attack. More..
