Antibiotic Cocktail For Bacterial Prostatitis

Antibiotics cocktail for bacterial prostatitis is a treatment regimen that includes a combination of several drugs, so that their combined effect is more potent than that of any of drugs used individually.

Chronic bacterial prostatitis represents an infection of prostate gland. It can be acute or chronic. Symptoms include pain mainly at the base of penis. Once your doctor has concluded that you have bacterial prostatitis, he must then decide which antibiotic will be effective in killing the primary bacteria, yeast or other organism responsible for the disease.

Treatment includes a course of antibiotics for 4-6 weeks. Based on highly limited studies, TMP-SMX is considered a first line antibiotic for chronic bacterial prostatitis (CBP) caused by gram negative bacteria.  Antibiotics cocktail is a treatment regimen that includes a combination of several drugs, so that their combined effect is more potent than that of any of drugs used individually. If the isolated bacteria are Gram -ve, then the specific antibiotic is combined with Gentamycin or Tobramycin to provide wide spectrum cover against Gram+ germs that might be present, e.g. Streptococcus.

If the isolated bacteria is Gram+  ve then Aztreonam or Ciprofloxacin is added to cover Gram- bacteriaWhen Chlamydia or Mycoplasma are detected in fresh or cultured samples or by DNA amplification or if their presence is hypothesized because of positive specific IGG and IGM Claritromycin  together with Levofloxacin is administered. When protozoa are identified, they are usually trichomonas. Under these circumstances, Metronodazol is advised. If bacteria cannot be isolated (as in most cases), then Gentamicyn is administered to eradicate Gram positive germs in association with Cipro to combat Gram negative germs.

But one thing should be kept in mind while prescribing antibiotic that administering1 gram of antibiotic directly into the prostatic capsule is equivalent to administering systemic dose 2000-25000 times higher (i.e. it is two to two and half thousand times more powerful).
