Degenerative Joint Disease In Paratroopers

Osteoarthritis, degenerative joint disease, is one of the oldest and most common form of arthritis found in paratroopers, is caused by abnormal wearing of cartilage. Arthritis is general term used for many conditions that results from degenerative changes of the joint and its structures.

It must be distinguished from other type of arthritis including rheumatoid arthritis. In osteoarthritis there is slow and progressive loss of cartilage (a rubbery material between two bones) that acts as shock absorbers between two bones thus keeping the joint flexible. Here it is important to note that although degenerative joint diseases is associated with aging but prolonged and repetitive movements( constantly using the same arm or foot for jumping from parachute) can cause damage to the joints thus leading to degenerative joint disease or arthritis. For example, a young person might hurt his knees badly while jumping from parachute. Then, years after the knee has apparently healed, he might get arthritis in his knee joint.

Symptoms of degenerative joint disease may include pain and tenderness in joint while walking and jumping, stiffness after long period of rest, loss of joint flexibility, swelling and tenderness around the joint, restricted joint movements. Conventional medical treatment may relieve the symptoms of degenerative joint disease but they do not root out the main problem. By strengthening the bones of the joint with natural medicine therapies like prolotheraphy (It is a simple natural technique that stimulates the body to repair the painful area) osteoarthritis pain may be removed permanently. Apart from this weight reduction and physical exercise under medical supervision and recreational sports that requires physical or mental exertion are also recommended.

Rare-Brain-Degenerative-Diseases      Some of rare degenerative brain diseases are Progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), Rasmussen’s encephalitis, Creutzfeltd-jakob disease, and Alpers disease and Wilson disease. The brain that is enclosed within the cranium is the supervisory center of the nervous system in all vertebrates. It is primary centre for the regulation and control of bodily activities.  It also serves as site of emotions, memory, self awareness and thought More..
