Degenerative Disc Disease Of Lower Back Exercises

Degenerative disc disease of the lower back is caused by degeneration of intervertebral disc. It is a common disorder of spine and can cause low back pain.

It can also lead to spinal stenosis. Disc generation can also lead to disorders such as spinal stenosis (it is a medical condition in which the spinal canal narrows and compresses the spinal cord and nerves), spondylolisthesis (spondylolisthesis describes the displacement of vertebrae below) and retrolisthesis (backward slippage of the disc and vertebra) and osteoarthritis.

Degenerative disc diseases show symptoms such as chronic low back pain, or there is itching pain in the buttocks, or thigh while walking, sitting, bending or lifting heavy objects.  Aging is the most common cause of degenerative disc diseases. As the body ages, the disc in the spine dehydrate, or dry out and loose their ability to act as a shock absorbers between the vertebrae. However an active lifestyle that combines regular light exercise and a good diet can help to repair or prolong the life of the disc.

Treatment Options:
Degenerative disc diseases can be successfully treated with surgery or combinations of treatment such as physical therapy and anti inflammatory drugs or spinal injections often provide relief to this problem. Surgery is only recommended if the conservative treatment options do not provide relief within 2 to 3 months. Degenerative disc diseases if not treated can lead to chronic debilitating conditions and can have serious negative impact on person’s quality of life. When pain from degenerative diseases is severe, traditional no operative treatment is often effective.
