What Is The Definition Of Lung Cancer ?

Lung cancer is defined as the disease in which the cells grow abnormally into the normal tissue of the lungs and they start forming a tumor of abnormal cells. A tumor is defined as the mass or a cell formation that is made up of abnormal cells.

 

Lung cancer has been identified as the most common disease that affects men and women in the United States. Lung cancer however is a rare occurrence in people who do not smoke or among children. Most number of people gets diagnosed with lung cancer at the age of sixty or above and at that age it is usually terminal. The two kinds of lung cancer that people are commonly diagnosed with are primary lung cancer and secondary lung cancer. The primary lung cancer is a condition in which the lung cancer tumor might have originated in the lungs itself. In this type of caner it is possible that the cancer did not spread to the other parts of the body. The secondary lung cancer us the metastasis type of lung cancer in which the cancer might have originated in some other part like the bone and spread to the lungs.

The most common reasons for lung cancer have been identified as smoking, exposure to harmful gases like radon and asbestos. Even passive smoking and exposure to second hand smoke can cause cancer in people. This, however, depends on the living conditions and life style habits. Sometimes the presence of lung caner is also indicated by diet and drinking alcohol.
