Lung cancer is the biggest killer in the United States every year. The most common type of cancer is skin cancer or melanoma in America and the lung cancer is second in rating. However, when it comes to taking lives, lung cancer takes more lives than skin cancer.

 

In spite of the wide exposure of lung cancer and its causes, the number of cases that are being diagnosed each year is still steadily on the rise. It has been proven that smoking causes 90 percent of the lung cancer cases and still people who smoke are increasing in number. Also, the number of women who are smoking is increasing in all races like African American, Europeans, Asians and others.

In lung cancer, abnormal cancer cells start growing in both the lungs and start affecting the tissue in the lungs. Sometimes lung cancer tumor originates in the lungs itself and it is called primary lung cancer. The other type of lung cancer that has originated in some other part of the body but spread to the lungs is called the metastasis lung cancer. Around 3 million deaths are caused every year due to lung cancer in the World. Only ten percent of people who have been diagnosed survive and that too for a period of five years or less. It is the most lethal disease as defined by the American Cancer Institute. In America, every single year more than one hundred and sixty three thousand people die of lung cancer and among these, the number of women who die are more.
